TSMC, Foxconn Named Leading Innovtors in Taiwan by Thomson Reuters
May 12, 2016

According to the 2016 State of Innovation Study released by Thomson Reuters, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) ranked sixth in the categories of Top 10 Global Innovators–Semiconductors (2015), while Foxconn was named in the category of Smart Media, reported the Economic Daily News on May 12. TSMC obtained 1,424 patents last year, trailing behind Samsung (4,144 patents), BOE (2,900 patents), LG (2,884 patents), CSOT (1,701 patents), and Toshiba (1,521 patents). The study also tracks global scientific literature publications, which serve as a leading index of patent applications and innovation momentum. In contrast to overall patent volume, the report found that the total number of scientific literature publications has dropped year on year, suggesting a potential slowdown in innovation.
